As mad as a wet hen at year break
“As mad as a wet hen” is one of my favourite expressions and is most apt on this Water Rooster day. It was said to originate in the Southern Appalachian Mountains and possibly referred to a dowsing process used to get a hen to lay further eggs instead of sitting on her original brood.
“Year break” occurs on every Rooster day in a Rabbit year and especially so this month as it also a Rooster period. The Chinese almanac recommends just sweeping and tidying up and I can’t help thinking that this might be an analogy for clearing up and making a fortune after others mistakes. To be on the safe side, it’s probably best to make any major decisions tomorrow when we emerge from this clash.
That said, a Water Rooster is the least problematic clash, as the water balances the two signs. In this case, Rooster will be the centre of attention and can be quite carefree. It is also good for the associated signs of Snake and Ox, who share creativity. The former also has wealth or wife potential, whilst the latter may have good investment opportunities. Rabbit signs may be under stress today, but share power opportunities with Tigers. Similarly, earth signs of Dragon, Goat and Dog should be relaxed. Conversely, Pig and Rat signs will have lots of energy.

Salt & Pepper, starters for Summer seasoning?
Today's Water Rooster represents the flavours of salt and pepper respectively. Since our last blog, many reports but just a few days ago, we have started a new month and a new season.
This new Snake month is highly compatible with today's Rooster that today is a great day for most activities. The feng shui almanac specifically lists meditating or honouring ancestors, taking a course having a haircut, travelling, getting engaged or married, having an astrology reading, emigrating, opening a business and trading, refurbishing a home or office, laying foundations, fixing a roof, buying or setting direction for your bed, hunting, or setting up a tombstone as most favourable. Whilst instigating litigation, planti8ng seeds or buying land and best postponed until a later date.
With the Snake and Rooster alignment you only need an Ox in your chart to come under a huge metal influence. For fire people this could mean wealth or relationship opportunities, but with almost 13 million different charts it’s impossible to be exact. However, we have free tools and no end of explanations to help you make the most of today on our web sites and a good starting point is this dedicated Water Rooster web page.
Of course, before you visit this page you may want to find out of you have an Ox and you can try our free Chinese horoscope and our attribute cycle for this. We should return tomorrow on a Wood Dog day. - Water Rooster daily Chinese horoscope posted 7th May 2013
Little Dippers guide the way; pukka!
Traditionally we begin our daily blog by mentioning the Chinese astrology influence of the day. However, today it’s the “Ladle” from the 28 Lunar Mansions that’s gets us underway. This is the constellation that the moon rises in, and known as The Little Bear or Little Dipper. Together with its larger version, The Great Bear or Big Dipper, they guided the way for our ancient predecessors and were the basis of navigation. It therefore seems only fitting that we begin here.
Coincidentally, today's Water Rooster could be considered as a little dipper too, after all it’s a small bird and associated with water. When found within the Chinese almanac it also guides our way, allowing us to “go with the flow” and make the most of the day ahead. Today it recommends meditation or honouring ancestors, taking a course, meditation or honouring ancestors , having a haircut, sweeping house, refurbishing a home or office, laying foundations, fixing a roof, moving home, buying or setting direction for your bed or oven, erecting a statue or funeral duties. The Tong Shu advises against litigation, felling trees or acquiring livestock today.
It’s generally a better than OK day, one might even say good. Because the “Ladle” shape signifies measuring and distribution it’s associated with rewards, especially in the form of promotion and salary increases.
Interestingly Jamie Oliver was born on this day of the Water Rooster and he’s the most successful TV chef in the world. Part of his charm is “dipping” his fingers and tasting his food; pukka! Water Rooster daily Chinese horoscope posted 8/11/ 2012 & 7/01/13
Wet Wooster Wednesday?
I am a bit tongue tied being the first day back in the office after teaching last weekend, so please forgive my literary abuse of the word Rooster. However, it does sound better and saves me struggling over a suitable title for today's blog.
The more adventurous amongst you may realise that the title refers to a Water Rooster day. Of the five types of Rooster this particular one can be the strongest and most resourceful. They are also blessed with a fine sense of taste and smell, Jamie Oliver being a fine example.
Actually on the subject of chefs, as feng shui deals with quality of life in all its forms we were exploring the idea of producing an article on five element famous cooks. This would recommend the best chef or type of cooking according to their energy alignment, as defined within Chinese astrology. This could help you adopt your favourable element into your diet by either visiting their restaurants or getting their recipes online. Anyway, let us know what you think?

It is a good time to mention this idea as today’s influences enhances quality of life being both a “Carriage” and “Fullness” day. The Chinese almanac or book of nature interprets this by recommending meditation or honouring ancestors, getting married, buying or making clothes, pampering, sweeping house, buying or setting direction for your oven, bathroom, home, or even a new warehouse. It is also suitable for burial duties including setting up a tombstone. It advises against signing contracts, especially for boats or building swimming pools. Black chicken – a super food halts ageing
In researching alternative titles for a Water Rooster day I came across Black Chicken and if you have been following these blogs you will know why, but if you're new to them, black is the colour associated with the water element and a male chicken is of course, a Rooster.
Turns out, a black chicken is a "Silkie" and contains high levels of carnosine; a natural anti-oxidant that improves muscle strength and is said to alleviate the effects of ageing, autism and diabetes. It is also supposed to taste twice as nice as regular chicken and has been cultivated by the Chinese for over 1,000 years. Sadly, in the west it seems only available in supplement form, unless of course you know a farmer who keeps them.
That unfortunately is the only good news; todays Rooster clashes with the annual Rabbit sign and is known as the "Year Break". Any major decisions affecting the year ahead should be made tomorrow and the Chinese almanac suggests just tidying up affairs or sweeping your home as the only suitable activities.
However, a Water Rooster is a less problematic clash because the water balances the two signs. In this case, Rooster signs will be the centre of attention and can be relatively carefree.
