“Aim for the moon. If you miss, you may hit a star.”
Solar eclipse and new moon rising, yet… hope springs eternal!
Today's title was originally inspired from a quote by Confucius and is appropriate on so many levels. Not least because it’s a Fire Rat day and in the earliest forms of feng shui or “Kan Yu” as it was then known, today's elements represent the Star and Moon respectively.
Fire also represents the height of growth or success, as well as action, and the Rat always marks the start of a new cycle. I am therefore interpreting today as the start of a new cycle where action leads to success.
If that wasn’t all, tonight we have a new moon which is traditionally the start of a cycle and the ideal time to start projects. This is just as well as today there may also be a shortage of heavenly light due to a solar eclipse.
In ancient times they feared these days as they didn’t know whether the Sun, the source of life, would ever return. In a similar way, with austerity affecting everyday life, I am reminded that today's fire element can also mean hope and joy. Two further quotes then spring to mind; the first is that “as one door closes another opens” and the other by Albert Einstein who said, “I like to think that the moon is there even if I am not looking at it”. Well, the sun is just under the horizon, let there be light, find hope and joy will find you.

Rare Red Rat runs rampant raising stakes and dedicating statues
It is a Fire Rat day and as you will know, red is the colour associated with the fire element. It also relates to action and sports, the running aspect in today’s title. Mondays Chinese almanac recommended raising pillars or stakes and today it suggests dedicating them, along with meditating and having a haircut. That is about all that is good today.
Generally, Rat signs being of the water element, do not prosper in July and are pretty rare. On one level, their qi is imprisoned and on another it is called a “harm”. If Fire rat is part of your horoscope, and you can find out here free Chinese horoscope, you can overcome any problems with the wood element. When properly balanced, the Fire Rat is the most powerful of the Rat signs and if found in the day pillar, denotes a period of recognition between the ages of 30 to 45 years. For females with this sign, it also indicates romance and marriage. Famous Red Rats include Alan Alda, Ursula Andress, Silvio Berlusconi, Glen Campbell, David Carradine, Bruce Dern, Jim Henson, Dennis Hopper, Kris Kristofferson, Robert Redford, Burt Reynolds, Yves Saint-Laurent, Mary Tyler Moore and Bill Wyman. - Fire Rat daily Chinese horoscope posted 20th July 2011
Of Rats, Rabbits and Gathering Ghosts…
Being a Fire Rat day in a Rabbit month doesn’t bode too well. It’s not just because there isn’t a lot of love between these signs, the Rabbit feels punished by the Rat and the latter may feel drained by our long eared friend. In addition, the Yang Fire of today clashes with the annual Yang Water sign. However, being a “Ghost” day in the 28 Lunar Mansion or moon phase, may make us wish that tomorrow comes sooner than normal.
Days that are ruled by “Ghosts” are unfavourable and any new projects can end in misfortune. Women that marry on a Ghost day are said to be widows longer than they are wives. But prayers for the dead, memorial services and visits to cemeteries to visit the tombs of ancestors will bring great merit and respect, and honours to one’s descendants.
That said, it isn’t all bad and according to the 12 daily palaces, it’s a “Gather” day. This makes commerce or trade successful, especially for hairdressers, so it’s also good for haircuts. With a well-crafted “barnet”, we should organise matters of a joyful nature so that the time will quickly pass, so says the Chinese almanac.
On the subject of time, we have lots to do next week and our blog which would normally return on Tuesday will be postponed until our next respite, perhaps not until after Easter. However, we will still update our web site daily.Fire Rat daily Chinese horoscope posted 16th March 2011
Miss the Monkey?
Wherever possible we include the Chinese zodiac sign in our title. However, today's title is an exception. It is actually a Fire Rat day, which in a Dragon year only needs a Monkey for a massive water influence. Depending on the makeup of your chart, this effect can either make you feel like you’re going with the flow, or conversely, that you are going under!
Fire Rat is the most ambitious and powerful of the Rat signs. When found in the day pillar, it denotes a period of recognition between the ages of 30 to 45 years. For females with this sign, it also indicates romance and marriage. Famous Red Rats include Alan Alda, Ursula Andress, Silvio Berlusconi, Glen Campbell, David Carradine, Bruce Dern, Jim Henson, Dennis Hopper, Kris Kristofferson, Robert Redford, Burt Reynolds, Yves Saint-Laurent, Mary Tyler Moore and Bill Wyman.
Everyone will feel this water effect in the Monkey double hour occurring between 3pm – 5pm (15:00 – 17:00) and if you want to miss it, or at least dampen the effect, you will need to be around or near wood. The wood element comes in many forms, from being near flora or fauna, to wearing green or light blue colours, sleeping or facing east, to strategizing and planning. You could also eat vegetables, construct something, be kind to someone or even make a charitable donation.
To discover whether you need to miss or insulate yourself from this influence, first find out if you have a Monkey in your horoscope. You can do this with our free Chinese horoscope. If so, or even to see what part of your life will be affected during the Monkey hour, see our attribute cycle. This will tell you whether water will affect your relationships, status, wealth, creativity, energy or stress levels.
The Chinese almanac suggests just keeping cool with meditation or honouring ancestors, and putting your “house in order” by smoothing out and dealing with minor issues.
We will return tomorrow on a Fire Ox day, which should make you smile as it is a much better day. Until then, try to enjoy every moment of NOW. - Fire Rat daily Chinese horoscope posted 12/09/2012 & 10/01/13

Fire Rat cycles with great cold!
The Rat marks the start of a new cycle of animal signs or as they are professionally known Earthly Branches. Although they have romantic personality traits , when used as month signs they actually track the rise and fall of energy via the five elements throughout a year.
Another cycle that runs concurrently is the 24 Chinese seasons of which yesterday began Great Cold which happens to be the 24th. This cycle tracks natural phenomenon and as such, it can be used to see how global warming is affecting our current climate. This 15 day period denotes the coldest time of the year in the Northern hemisphere and if we count the days between yesterday and our next cold spell, you can see just how much we are affected locally by this planetary phenomenon.
On the subject of climate, this Fire Rat day brings warmth and friendship to the Rat, who together with the Pig can enjoy romance, plans coming to fruition and wealth opportunities. Metal element signs of Monkey and Rooster can be positively inspired or can relax and take things more easily, whilst their women can experience romance. Money luck also comes to the earth signs of Dragon, Sheep, Dog even moreso for Ox
Today Tiger is well supported, but the Rabbit may be punished, the Horse may also have a tough time and would benefit from the wood element, Meanwhile, Snake has power and may be prominent.
The Chinese almanac says today is good for meditating, pampering, buying clothes, collecting debts, trading, fermenting or drinking wine (responsibly) and making funeral arrangements. - Fire Rat daily Chinese horoscope January 2011
