Monkey tree; - that’s a puzzle!
Today's title should be taken literally as a Monkey Tree is also known as a Monkey Puzzle tree. Inspiration for this slight nod to humour occurs on this Wood Monkey day due to the Yang Wood in today's sign. This symbolises a great tree, with its roots in the earth, its leaves in heaven and its beauty for mankind to benefit from. Many ancient civilisations and teachings share this philosophy and in Chinese astrology it can also symbolise the “luck trinity”, said to unite mankind with heaven and earth.
On the subject of luck the Chinese almanac suggests travelling, having a haircut, getting married, buying or making clothes, emigrating, signing contracts and trading, moving earth, fixing a roof, planting, or setting up a tombstone as suitable activities.

Married under the Monkey Tree; no wonder!
Today's Wood Monkey when found in a Chinese horoscope can form a special relationship with Yang Earth and Yang Metal to denote a very special individual. It is one of three very rare combinations known as the “Three Wonders”. This particular alignment is called “Heavens Wonder” and as the other two refer to Earth and Man, the luck trinity is maintained.
People with this phenomenon are seen as natural leaders and tend to lead very special lives. Perhaps this is you? Either way, you can find out here with our free Chinese horoscope. Unfortunately, the No Wonder part of the title tells us that we do not have this alignment today. The closest we came was between 07:00 and 09:00 as this was a Yang Earth period, but as this is always calculated in “local time”, maybe it hasn’t happened for you yet.
Inspiration for the rest of today's title seemed a natural “fit” by combining Wood and Monkey into Monkey Tree. The Marriage part came from the Chinese almanac which lists this union as one of very few suitable activities today. Other suggestions were pampering, tidying up or fixing a path. However, that has more to do with this also being an “Even” day, so take it easy and don’t overdo things.
We will return tomorrow on a Wood Rooster day. Wood Monkey daily horoscope posted 24th January 2012
Today's energy of Wood Monkey would appear to be at extremes, as wood denotes expansion, whilst the metal of the monkey element signifies contraction. However, sandwiched between the two is the balancing energy of water, which can signify trade and business deals.
Consequently the Chinese almanac recommends signing contracts, trading and investing in the future by laying foundations as particularly fortunate today. Other auspicious activities include travelling, emigrating, shaving hair (or prices), fixing a roof or attending to funeral duties and Yin Feng Shui.
Of the five different types on monkey found within Chinese astrology, the Wood Monkey is the strongest and perhaps the most ambitious. However, their emotions may rule their minds and may cause undue pressure. As you have just seen above, the water element balances this stress and allows them to more easily put their ideas into action.
We are currently in a two year water period, where this element has received major news coverage, from the wettest summer to the excess melting of the ice caps. Accordingly, Wood Monkeys should make the most of this period, as following ground water issues next year, the pressure returns from 2014. Howl at the Monkey Moon - now that’s clever!
This Wood Monkey day welcomes a New Moon tonight and putting the two together, perhaps we should have called it “Howler” instead of howl at. Speaking of similarities, did you know that the Chinese word for Monkey, “Hou”, is the same as the word for clever, so let’s try to continue cleverly!
Howl is still appropriate though, as shouting is one of the traits associated with the Wood element, especially when it is out of balance. This would normally be the case with a Wood Monkey, as the Monkey’s element is metal which clashes with Wood to create pressure, maybe even rage. However, today's Wood Monkey is well balanced by the seasonal water element, so it is able to use its power more wisely. Now that is clever.
Speaking of which, the “smart” things to do today according to the Chinese almanac, are meditation, asking for blessings, visiting friends, having a haircut, travelling, even emigrating, getting married, having an astrology reading, buying or making clothes,
moving earth, fixing a roof, or setting up a tombstone.

Monkey flowers in Chinese New Year
Monkey flower or Mimosa is a flower that appears just once a year and you would think New Year’s celebrations also occurred only once. Think again! Yesterday’s Chinese New Year was the second New Year celebration we enjoyed this year and these celebrations are based on the lunar cycle, which occurs on the second new moon after the winter solstice.
Now here’s where things get a bit confusing. In mainstream Chinese astrology and feng shui, the real New Year begins on 4th February when the Sun starts a new solar cycle. It isn’t until then that the zodiac sign changes, so anyone born today or prior to February would still have last year’s metal Rabbit as their animal year sign. Unfortunately, it doesn’t tell you that in Chinese astrology books and is why we explain it here.
Due to our extremely busy schedule, this is our first blog of 2012 and we can’t stay long. We will provide our thoughts and comments on the new Water Dragon year around February 4th, but as a spoiler, Monkeys, Rats and Dragon signs will all flower or flourish in the year ahead.
The Tong Shu, Tong Sing, Chinese or farmer’s almanac, even The Book of Nature, (all the same book) has the following suggestions. Do; open a business and trade, renovate home or office, travel, lay foundations. Do not sign contracts in meetings.
It is our busiest time right now and we ask you to bear with us and we will be back as soon as we can. Until then, make the most of NOW!

When no great tigers in the mountains, even a monkey can be king
Today's title is a self-explanatory Chinese proverb, appropriate on this very auspicious Wood Monkey day.
Of the five different types on monkey found within Chinese astrology, the Wood Monkey is the strongest and perhaps the most ambitious. However, when found in a person’s day pillar, it shows a qi blockage and normally indicates the storing of emotions. This usually causes difficulties in self-expression and can also lead to health problems.
However, the water element balances this stress and allows them to more easily action their ideas. They can cure this problem by accessing this qi by just daring to express themselves when communicating with others. It is said that some people “come alive” or gain presence among others and this is certainly true of this type. When their fears are conquered, they have a regal, if not intense, personality.
They are usually adventurous, playful and tall, muscular or curvaceous depending on their gender. They stand out in a crowd, have natural magnetism and are sometimes irresistible to the opposite sex.
If this is you, or you know someone like this, they would have been born between August 8th and September 7th in any year ending with 0 or 5. Those with a Wood Monkey include Antonio Banderas, Roger Daltrey, Michael Douglas, David Duchovny, J Boog, Dana Hamm, Rutger Hauer, Sean Penn, Chris Pine, Claudia Schiffer, Charlize Theron, and Shania Twain. You could of course have been born on a Wood Monkey day like Carl Sagan.
As befitting a Royal Court an increased quality of life can be expected and today the Chinese almanac is almost smiling. Subsequently, most activities are favourable, including meditating or honouring ancestors, asking for blessings, visiting friends, taking a course, sweeping house, travelling, getting engaged or married, having an astrology reading, emigrating, opening a business and trading, refurbishing a home or office, laying foundations, fixing a roof, buying or setting direction for your oven or setting up a tombstone. Activities best postponed are opening a warehouse, debt collecting, buying or setting direction for your bed or buying or making clothes.
Although still busy, we should return tomorrow. Until then, enjoy every moment of NOW!
