WEN WANG GUA - DIVINATION
Wen Wang Gua method was the original way of reading hexagrams before the text was developed for the I Ching. Wen Wang Gua still survives today and is far more specific than I Ching divination and can show us when important changes will take place.
Wen Wang Gua was developed by Jiang Fang, an ancient I Ching master who allocated Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches to each line of a hexagram, via the hexagram palaces. He also described the elemental relationship between each line and assigned attributes such as wealth, power, resources, assistance, and output, to reflect this interaction. Therefore, instead of reading I Ching judgments which are general and apply to all, you can be much more specific. Further, from the dynamics of the Earthly Branches he could tell what and when things would happen. The accuracy of this method is unquestioned and has been practiced for over 2000 years in China, where it is commonly known as Wen Wang Ba Gua.

To best use this system we need to understand that mankind is a fully functional part of the universe and as such, can receive help from the cosmos in divinations. In Chinese culture this principle is known as Tian Ren He Yi. When translated into English this becomes Heaven and Man become one. This is the essence of Wen Wang Ba Gua, named after Ji Chang who posthumously became King Wen.
Wen Wang Ba Gua is based on yin and yang, tai chi, the dynamics of the five elements e.g. descending, expanding, rising, holding and contraction. It also includes elements of Form School, as well as the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches
ADVANCED I CHING TECHNIQUES - SHI AND YING LINES
Shi and Ying are integral lines found within a hexagram. Shi means Subject and Ying is the Object. Therefore, whenever we divine for a client they are represented by the Subject line and the focus of their question will always be the Object line. In practice, when we assign attributes such as power, resource, assistance, output and relationships/wealth, we may choose another enquiry line that better suits our circumstances. However, looking at the elemental relationship between the Subject and Object lines will always tell you how likely success will be.
In every hexagram, there are always two separating lines between the Subject and Object lines that can seriously influence their interaction and the subsequent result. Once you have found one line, the other will be two further (separating) lines on. As an example let us look at the first hexagram in the I Ching – Qian – the creative power of heaven.
